Examining Incivility Through a Moral Lens: Coworker Morality Appraisals, Other-Condemning Emotions, and Instigated Incivility

While much is known about the prevalence and impact of incivility in workplace, relatively less those who instigate workplace incivility. This research aims to investigate instigation through a moral lens by examining roles other-condemning emotions (contempt, disgust, anger) appraisals coworkers’ morality as predictors this behavior at work. In Study 1, we used structural equation modeling analyze two waves self-report data collected from sample 447 full-time United States (U.S.) working adults. Findings study indicate that appraising coworkers low elicited feelings contempt, anger.
